Hip or Groin Pain

What is it? Radiating pain - Pain that originates in your hip may radiate to your groin, and groin pain may radiate to your hip.

What is it caused by? In young, active people, the cause of groin pain is often a muscle strain or tear, especially if you have experienced one before, since strains tend to recur. If you are older, the cause is more likely to be arthritis or a hernia.

What are the symptoms? Groin pain that originates in your hip can vary in how it feels. It can be either sharp or dull, and either sudden or gradual. Its type and severity will depend on its cause.

How do I manage it? Rest, apply ice to the injured area and practice mild stretching or physical therapy to decrease the pain.



ACL Injury

What is it? A tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament.

What is it caused by? It most commonly occurs during sports that involve sudden stops or changes in direction.

What are the symptoms? Many people hear or feel a popping sensation in the knee. Your knee may swell and feel unstable.

How do I manage it? Exercises to strengthen the core, leg muscles and training to improve technique.




Patella Femoral Joint Pain

What is it? Pain at the front of your knee, around your kneecap (patella).

What is it caused by? Overuse, muscle imbalances or weaknesses, injury or surgery.

What are the symptoms? Causes a dull, aching pain in the front of your knee.

How do I manage it? Maintain strength through regular exercises.





Osgood-Schlatter Disease

What is it? A condition that causes pain and swelling below the knee joint.

What is it caused by? Most often caused during physical activity because it puts additional stress on bones and muscles.

What are the symptoms? Knee pain and tenderness, swelling and tight muscles in the front or back of the thigh.

How do I manage it? Stretching exercises for the front and back of the thigh.






Sever’s Disease

What is it? An inflammation of the growth plate in the calcaneus (heel).

What is it caused by? Caused by repetitive stress to the heel.

What are the symptoms? Heel pain, tenderness underneath the heel and mild swelling at the heel.

How do I manage it? Rest and apply ice.







Contusions and Dead Leg Impact Injuries

What is it? An injury that causes bleeding and tissue damage underneath the skin, usually without breaking the skin.

What is it caused by? Any injury that puts pressure on an area repetitively can cause a contusion.

What are the symptoms? Discolouration, swelling and tightness.

How do I manage it? Rest, apply ice, compress and elevate.
