ACL Injury

What is it? A tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament.

What is it caused by? It most commonly occurs during sports that involve sudden stops or changes in direction.

What are the symptoms? Many people hear or feel a popping sensation in the knee. Your knee may swell and feel unstable.

How do I manage it? Exercises to strengthen the core, leg muscles and training to improve technique.



Contusions and Dead Leg Injuries

What is it? An injury that causes bleeding and tissue damage underneath the skin, usually without breaking the skin.

What is it caused by? Any injury that puts pressure on an area repetitively can cause a contusion.

What are the symptoms? Discolouration, swelling and tightness.

How do I manage it? Rest, apply ice, compress and elevate.




Concussion

What is it? A type of traumatic brain injury.

What is it caused by? Caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth.

What are the symptoms? Headache or pressure in the head, nausea, balancing problems, sensitivity to light and sound and confusion.

How do I manage it? Avoiding sports or strenuous exercise, limited exposure to light and sound, stay hydrated, rest and avoiding unnecessary movement.





Finger Fracture

What is it? A broken (fractured) finger.

What is it caused by? Occurs as the result of an injury to the hand.

What are the symptoms? Pain, swelling, tenderness, bruising, deformity and reduced ability to move the finger.

How do I manage it? Rehabilitation exercises to reduced the finger’s swelling and stiffness.






Shoulder Instability

What is it? The lining of the shoulder joint becomes stretched, torn or detached.

What is it caused by? Shoulder dislocation and shoulder trauma.

What are the symptoms? Repeated shoulder dislocations, pain and the feeling of your shoulder being loose/ out of place.

How do I manage it? Apply ice before and after exercise to reduce the pain and swelling.
