Meniscus Tear

What is it? The meniscus tears.

What is it caused by? A sudden twist to the knee whilst bearing weight on it.

What are the symptoms? Pain, swelling, a catching or locking feeling, unstability, unable to bend or extend your knee and tenderness.

How do I manage it? Rehabilitation exercises to strengthen your knee and leg muscles gradually.



Achilles Tendinopathy

What is it? An injury to the band of tissue (tendon) that runs down the back of your lower leg to your heel.

What is it caused by? Caused by overusing your achilles tendon.

What are the symptoms? Pain, stiffness and sometimes swelling that makes it hard to move freely.

How do I manage it? Resting your foot, using ice and pain medicines, using a brace or similar device to stop your foot from a lot of movement.




Hamstring Tendinopathy

What is it? A pain in the tendon that attaches the hamstring to the buttocks.

What is it caused by? A sudden increase in training volume/intensity, or individuals who have started hill running.

What are the symptoms? A sharp or deep aching pain, pain which worsens from prolonged sitting, standing, walking or exercise.

How do I manage it? Stretching and strengthening exercises.





ITB (Iliotibial Band) Problem

What is it? Lateral knee injury.

What is it caused by? Overuse and repetitive flexion and extension of the knees.

What are the symptoms? Tightness, seems irritated and inflamed.

How do I manage it? Stretching and strengthening exercises and massage treatment.






Patella Femoral Joint Pain

What is it? Pain at the front of your knee, around your kneecap (patella).

What is it caused by? Overuse, muscle imbalances or weaknesses, injury or surgery.

What are the symptoms? Causes a dull, aching pain in the front of your knee.

How do I manage it? Maintain strength through regular exercises.
